Want to learn how to use running poles efficiently and with confidence?
Using running poles is becoming increasingly more popular in races, especailly much longer distances and mountain races. If you're using poles incorrectly, you could end up seriously injuring yourself, or someone else!
In this 90 minute workshop, we will cover everything you need to know. We'll cover using poles across different terrains, and how to get the most out them.
I also have Leki poles you can borrow if you don't have your own.
I am a Salomon sponsored ultra runner, trail runner and coach, with experience of running trails of all kinds, all around the world.
"Having witnessed blokes powering past me with trekking poles in trail races in Spain (when putting one 'running' foot in front of the other had got to be a major effort for me) I resolved to invest in and LEARN how to use these magic poles. I say "learn" because - apart from not being entirely happy about being passed by, what in the UK might have once been considered as "trekkers" or "walkers", I noticed that not everybody knew how to use them properly (aka without causing harm to other competitors).
So I contacted Matt Buck from Running Adventures to see, first of all, if he advocated the use of poles, and then to see if he could give me a masterclass on using poles in trail running and also advise on which poles would suit my needs best.
Over the course of our hour session Matt took me through everything from correct handling of poles when not in use to downhill, uphill and everything in between. He advised on the correct size for me and the different models available. His advice was geared towards me, my level and my needs and he gave me insight on how beneficial poles can be in ultra distance races. All in all, I would consider it the most beneficial hour's personal training and advice that I have had in a long time. Thank you so much, Matt." Bernie O'Donovan
